Mr. Carlos

My brother's name is Dante Carlos. He is based in Minneapolis and is a senior designer at the Walker Art Center. He is one of those people who is so good at what they do, its sick. I'm not just saying this because I'm his sister. His work is fun, imaginative, irreverent and just really really fresh.

We founded Revol Magazine, an old internet art magazine from several years ago. He was my collaborator on our 2012 Calendar project and I also hired him to do some new identity work.

Check out all this beauty:

I am also happy to say he now has a website where you can see all his work!

Follow his visual blog, his website and check out his flickr!

Other options include: write him a nice note, send him some pizza, treat him to a 20 piece chicken mcnuggets meal and/or just think good thoughts about him.

I can't stop making these things! Sourcing beads has become quite an addiction. Making jewelry is my happy place. Don't judge me :(

These new ladyfriends will be up in the store very soon. The hardest part is finding a name for them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, my friends.

Lets have a black celebration

I used to be a huge depeche mode fan. I still like them a lot but I used to be super into them back in high school. I was a member of their fan club, I would seek out as many bootlegs of rare songs and live sets I could find. I was the co-founder of the only (and very short lived) depeche mode fanclub in Manila where we would put out the occasional newsletter and send it to members via mail or fax.

I had a number of depeche mode penpals from Germany and for some reason they were all from East Germany. There was one guy who would always sign off his letters with "Let's have a black correspondence" which was, and still is, THE BEST!

Anyway, in honor of black friday (and small business saturday and cyber monday etc), lets have a black celebration!

From today through Monday, 25% off all prints and posters in the shop (or you can order $37 worth of other stuff and get the discount)!

Use Code: darkfriday or click here to redeem.

I love the holidays. I love you guys.

Food & Wine + Debbie Carlos sitting in a tree

So excited to have the Perfect Twist poster (as well as Devin's thermal undies and winter socks) featured in the December issue of Food and Wine Magazine !

I totally love looking at STUFF and especially stuff you can buy or dream of buying so I'm always interested in everyone's gift lists and etsy treasuries and the like. They've got some really nice goodies in this one.

& as a fan of top chef, I can't help but imagine that Gail Simmons and maybe even Padma have now seen my work. And whoever else reads food and wine which is probably everyone. Ruth Reichl? James Oseland? Etc? Eek!

Now if they would just hire me to shoot some of their editorials. Hit me up on my cell!

Haaaaappy Moooonday !

Thank you!

Many thanks to those who have ordered AHC necklaces this past week and since I started. Starting a jewelry line was a huge risk for me in terms of how people might react to my doing something really different, how I would resolve working in two different spheres, how good I would actually be at this. But seeing that people like the new stuff really makes me feel good and validated. There is a ton I still have to learn and I feel like in many ways I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I'm doing but I'm glad that I feel like maybe this is the right direction.

So thank you thank you thank you!

I also wanted to say that I will be updating the shop very soon with some new goodies.

And and and - - - don't forget to enter the giveaway over on Where the Lovely Things Are! It ends Monday!

A darker mood

Lets start the week off right -- with two new large posters ! A darker mood for the darker and colder season (in the northern hemisphere anyway). The first is the feathery back of a snowy owl and the second is the sideways glance of a great horned owl. Great alone but I really like how they look together. Both available only in the new shop !

Dose Market !

This Sunday I am so excited to be selling my things at Dose Market. Dose is a new phenomenon here in Chicago -- a higher end food and fashion market at the River East Art Center that is gaining a ton of attention.

If you are a food enthusiast like me (I refuse to say f - o - o - d - i - e ), you will just die. Zingerman's is going to be there! Great Lake ! Doughnut Vault ! Also a ton of awesome designers who make the most beautiful things to put on your body and in your home.

And I will be selling my posters, postcards and calendars there.

This special market has also been written up by the New York Times. YES

You should go ! More info on their site here !
