Bohol

Its been almost 5 years since I've been home to the Philippines so I'm really excited about going back later this year. Looking back on pictures from our previous Manila trip, I found some nice ones from a little side-trip to Bohol I had completely forgotten about.

New @ AHC

Its been awhile since I updated AHC! Some new spring bracelets just uploaded themselves into the shop. Go check them all out !

Spring Fantasy

Its spring now in the nothern hemisphere but it certainly doesn't feel like it where I am. Maybe thats why I can't stop looking to flowers these days. This is a recent image I made: kitschy painted and dyed supermarket flowers, pressed lightly under plexi, arranged into soft and exploding forms. Springtime fantasy.

Studio Tour: Annie Larson

There is that special moment when you discover someone's work and it is just so completely different from anything you've seen and it actually changes your perspective, and your perception. I feel like this when I see certain succulents and I had talked about this a little bit on a previous studio visit and I feel like this about Annie Larson's work.

Her combinations of patterns and colors are not something that I would personally have thought would go well together BUT THEY DO. And they are perfect. Her clothing and accessories exude such a sense of joy, youth, freedom, and friendliness (child magic). I feel like her clothing represents the kind of person I want to be.

Please enjoy these studio visit pictures as much as I enjoyed visiting her studio!

Good Morning Music Book

One of the things I wanted to do this year was to make a series of photobooks with new work.

I'm so excited to tell you that the first book in the series is now available for pre-order!

Good Morning Music is a nice collection of photographs taken between Fall 2012 to Winter 2013. The sublime in the every day, the unusual in the usual, little surprises, the natural and the artificial.  Wandering, looking, noticing,

56 pages of color photographs housed in a simple blue cover. Limited edition of 100. All books are numbered.

It also comes with a 5x7" monochrome print of one of the images that appears in the book. Printed on pearlescent, ivory cardstock. Tape it to your wall, frame it, or use it as a postcard.

CC Hong Memorial Hall

FACT: Us Hong kids are smart and cool.
editors note: My last name is Carlos but the H in DHC stands for Hong

Take for example: My cousin-in-law Grace. She is an architect at Xrange, a design and architecture firm in Taiwan she runs with  her husband (my cousin) Royce. I'm always so impressed by her projects. She recently designed a memorial for my grandfather, Mr CC Hong, located at the National Taiwan University School of Management.

Inspired by radio waves, wooden slats are cut into undulating, quivering lines that form a subtle portrait of my grandfather and two Taipei street-scapes. The space is open, and serene and interactive.  It is inspiring for students and full of meaning for our family.

See and read more about the memorial and other xrange projects here.

Publications for Pleasure

Above is a recent acquisition from Publications for Pleasure, a small Barcelona publishing house. The print is part of their "Food is very much about pleasure" series, and although all the images are beautiful, vibrant, dreamy, quiet, but this one was my favorite. So affordable at only 8€, I had to have it. As you can see, it fits in so perfectly in my kitchen.

PFP also published Atlas, a beautiful book of nice writing and pictures of the places in which we live and like and love. Though sold out, unfortunately, I'm pretty excited to see what they've got planned for us next.

These kids are ones to look out for.

Snow Storm

I only truly love winter when one is anticipating the holidays and during snow storms. Its too bad that in the last two places we've lived in the midwest, snow storms are few and far between. When we do get them, its exciting and we run out and take snow pictures. These images are from last December while visiting family in upstate New York. I didn't last too long and became grumpy pretty fast but at least I got these two nice photos.

Here's to hoping for a few more very snowy days before spring.
