The Carlos' of Marikina

Some cool old photos from the Carlos family archives. Top picture is my grandfather's (he is top right) family and the bottom is the Carlos ancestral house on J.P. Rizal St in Manila which housed the medical practices of Dr. Godofredo G Carlos and Dr OG Carlos.

You totally know OG was ballin' / shot callin' back in the day.

Many thanks to the facebook group 'Carlos Family (Marikina City)' for these images !

I want to write you a postcard

I have so many postcards lying around my house. Some that have even been around for years and years. Whenever I travel, go to a museum or anywhere else that has a postcard rack, I look out for any that I might want to buy. I put my favorite ones up for awhile but then they eventually get shoved somewhere and that is sad. I should put them to use!

If you would like to receive one, just email me your address. You may get one next week or you may get one next month or when you least expect it but it will be exactly what you need that day.  Regardless, you will get one. Thats pretty fun, right? You can send one back to me too but you don't have to. (I would love one though!)

Your penpal,
DHC

Great Success!

After something super awesome happens, I kind of retreat for a little while and I don't want to talk about it until some time after. This is why the blog has been quiet  and especially why I have not posted about how the Big Big City event went and its already been over two weeks! I'm weird?

Reader, it was amazing. We couldn't have asked for more friendly and talented vendors, a more amazing space (thanks Public Works!) or a more happy, enthusiastic and fun crowd (Chicago, you're the best!). The place was packed for almost the whole night. Great tunes to listen to (thanks to Julio!), delicious drinks and snacks (thanks to Red Hen Bread, Dan Mckee and everyone who baked a little something!) and beautiful things were raffled off and won (thanks to vendors & Revolution Brewing Co!).  And many many thanks to Rebecca who asked me to be a part of organizing the pop up and was a pure pleasure to work with.

Also, she gave me a box of See's Candy which was consumed in the following days in bed while marathoning hulu / netflix as I decompressed from all this craziness. I'm a big grown up sized baby.

Read more and see more about the show over on Rebecca's blog!

NEW ! GUEST ARTIST POSTERS: DANTE CARLOS

Another series of posters making its debut at the Big Big City pop up market (and later in the store) by the most honorable Mr. Dante Carlos!

Inspired by murders and mysteries, Dante presents a series of riddles in four acts. Can you decipher the meaning? Can you tell whodunnit? The posters are in a tiny edition (only four of each design) so grab one of these "Murder Mystery" posters at the pop up market happening tomorrow or get it at the webstore very soon!

More info about Big Big City here!

Studio Visit

Towards the end of last year, Chad over at The Post Family asked me to help out with some promo materials for a show featuring his, Stephen Eichhorn and Cody Hudson's work. The show centers around the idea of the artist studio and their process and practices and so I was asked to go to each of their studios to photograph their desks. It was great to be able to go into the studios of three of Chicago's super-talents and take pictures of their workspace! The images came out pretty awesome as did the poster for the show.

Studio Visit is open through February 17th with an artist lecture on the 16th at Purdue University. Go!
